INTENT

• We want pupils to develop a secure understanding of a range of religions and worldviews, helping them to understand themselves, others and the wider world.
• We aim to nurture curiosity and open-mindedness so pupils feel confident to ask meaningful questions about belief, faith, life and identity.
• We want pupils to develop respect and tolerance by exploring similarities and differences between beliefs, values and traditions.
• We encourage pupils to reflect thoughtfully, express their own views and recognise shared human values that promote community and harmony.

 

IMPLEMENTATION
Religious Education is taught in line with the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus and supported by the Jigsaw scheme. Teaching is enquiry-based and carefully sequenced to develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity alongside a range of other world religions and worldviews represented in local and global communities. Lessons balance learning about religion with learning from religion, allowing pupils to explore belief, meaning and values in a reflective and respectful way.

In EYFS, children begin to explore beliefs, celebrations and special times through stories, discussion and first-hand experiences. As pupils progress through the school, they build increasingly secure knowledge of religious traditions, practices and concepts, while developing the skills to listen, question and engage in meaningful dialogue. Opportunities for reflection, discussion and creative response are built into lessons so pupils can make personal connections to their learning.

 

IMPACT
Pupils leave primary school with a secure understanding of different religions and worldviews and the confidence to talk respectfully about belief and difference. They show empathy, reflection and open-mindedness, and are able to make thoughtful links between RE and their own lives. Pupils are prepared to contribute positively to life in modern Britain and a diverse society.

Note: RE is compulsory in schools up to the age of 18. Parents can ask to withdraw their child from parts or all of the lessons.
