Personal, Social, Health Education
INTENT
- We want pupils to develop strong emotional wellbeing, self-awareness and resilience so they are prepared to navigate life’s challenges.
- We aim to help pupils build positive, respectful relationships and a clear understanding of themselves and others.
- We want pupils to develop the knowledge and skills needed to make informed, healthy and responsible choices.
- We encourage pupils to value diversity, show empathy and understand their role within the wider community.
IMPLEMENTATION
PSHE is taught using the Jigsaw scheme, which follows a spiral curriculum model from EYFS to Year 6, ensuring learning is revisited and built upon each year. Teaching is organised around six key themes: being me in my world, celebrating difference, dreams and goals, healthy me, relationships and changing me. Content is delivered through a two-year cycle to support mixed-age classes, with the ‘changing me’ unit taught to individual year groups to ensure age-appropriate learning.
In EYFS, children develop early personal, social and emotional skills through structured play, discussion and adult-led activities. Across the school, lessons explicitly teach the language, vocabulary and strategies pupils need to understand emotions, manage relationships and respond to change. A safe and supportive environment allows pupils to reflect, ask questions and develop confidence in expressing their views.
IMPACT
Pupils leave primary school as confident, emotionally literate and resilient individuals. They are able to manage relationships, make positive choices and show empathy and respect for others. Pupils are well prepared for the challenges of adolescence and for life beyond primary school.
