INTENT

• We want pupils to develop curiosity about the world and a strong sense of place, from their local area to the wider world.
• We aim to equip pupils with the knowledge and vocabulary needed to think like geographers.
• We want pupils to investigate how physical and human processes shape environments and influence lives over time.
• We encourage pupils to become informed, responsible citizens who care about the world around them.

IMPLEMENTATION
Geography is taught using the Kapow scheme of work, structured around the key strands of locational knowledge, place knowledge, human and physical geography, and geographical skills and fieldwork. Learning follows a spiral curriculum model and is delivered through a two-year cycle to support mixed-age classes. Geography is taught bi-weekly.

In EYFS, children develop early geographical understanding through exploration of their immediate environment and simple fieldwork experiences. As pupils progress, lessons are carefully sequenced to revisit and deepen prior learning, with opportunities to use maps, data, observations and enquiry skills. Knowledge and skills are regularly revisited to strengthen retention and understanding.

IMPACT
Pupils leave primary school with a secure understanding of key geographical concepts and the confidence to investigate places and environments. They can explain how human and physical processes interact and show respect and responsibility towards the world. Pupils are well prepared to continue their geographical learning in Key Stage 3.
